About igus India:

igus® operations in India started in the year 1998 with head quarters in Bangalore. igus offers widest range of products that includes polymer bearings, igubal® spherical bearings, DryLin® linear bearings & guide systems enable them to serve the whole industrial establishments in India from a small work shop to huge industrial establishments.

Igus launches high performance Polymer plain bearings on carbon fibre shafts

With tribo polymers and carbon two future marking materials meet and this combination promises low weight and low wear. The igus GmbH from Cologne has now found the optimal iglidur plain bearing material with iglidur J260 for the use on carbon fibre shafts. Previously 25 iglidur variants were tested on the test bench to prove its durability at linear short-stroke applications.

Over a number of months igus performed and evaluated test runs. Because carbon fibre shafts are relatively new on the market, the material experts from igus GmbH faced an experiment with an open result. Above all it became clear, that materials, which harmonize perfectly with metal shafts, don’t necessarily have to be the first choice for carbon fibre shafts. iglidur J260 was the clear winner on the test bench in view of wear, abrasion and driving force. All in all, the material passed double strokes with a length of 5 millimetres for more than 200 hours. It doesn’t only harmonize perfectly with plastic, but also with carbon fibre shafts and guarantees highest service life for the plain bearing.

Carbon fibre – a material with future
Wherever masses are moved, we are looking for lightweight and at the same time robust materials that save energy with less weight and finally save costs too. Carbon fibre shafts show an extreme bending resistance in spite of being lightweight. The shafts can reach high speed and therefore more efficiency. The industrial need made carbon-manufactured carbon fibre to become a shooting star amongst shaft materials. Also for igus: The company offers carbon fibre shafts suitable for iglidur plain bearings in different diameters up to 30 mm from stock.
iglidur J260 as an ideal supplement
Carbon fibre shaft require high-performance and stressable plain bearings. iglidur J260 is lubrication and maintenance-free and it has proved to be the ideal combination in the tests. It shows excellent wear characteristics and due to low humidity consumption it can be used even in a wet or humid environment. The abrasion remains low with carbon fibre shafts as counter partner. Because of these quality features, iglidur J260 clearly won the internal igus tests for plain bearing materials.

The results clearly indicate the importance of a consequent investment in research of new materials and also, to perform extensive tests not only in standard constellations. Test cycles show, which material reflects the special requirements in an application. So at the end, the research from igus literally cares for a smooth application and durability of the products – very much according to the igus maxim: “plastics for longer life”.

Body: Round bars are available in lengths from 100 to 1000 mm and in diameters from 10 to 100 mm; iglidur plates in thickness of 2 to 25 mm lie in store at igus. With these additional widths, designers gain more scope for individual design. Upon request, igus offers the manufacturing of special parts according to the drawing.

iglidur round bars and plates from the tribo polymer specialist igus are becoming more and more diverse and facilitates users adaptations of individual machine requirements. Mechanically machined bearings made of lubrication-free igus high-performance plastics are used wherever standard moulded parts are not worth the effort. Therefore the bearings are also appropriated for special parts as well as for smallest and medium series. With the scale of materials and sizes it is possible, to quickly make prototypes and to test the applicability for the series in a cost-effective way.

Large range of materials and sizes
Because igus tribo semi-finished products as well as the bearings are made of the tested iglidur plain bearing materials, all respective bearings can be calculated in advance online with the help of the specially developed expert system. Meanwhile 10 iglidur materials with specific features are available for a large variety of branches, such as the food, tobacco or automobile industry. Round materials, for example in the blue iglidur A350 material were available in diameters of 30, 40, 50 and 60 mm. Now they are also available in the small 20 mm diameter. They are suitable for medium to high loads and temperatures up to +180 °C. In addition they conform with FDA requirements and the first choice for the food industry. Round bars made of the material J 4 are now available in four new dimensions: in length of 20, 40, 50 and 60 mm.
igus round materials are available from stock in full bars up to 1 m in increments of 100 mm. Diameters vary between 10 and 100 mm.

iglidur J plates in seven thickness
The scope also grows for slide rails and rings: iglidur plates that are suitable for the production of such parts are currently available in seven material thicknesses from 2 to 25 mm. When used for guide tubes in operation tables, telescope arms for loading cranes or slide rails, all plates from igus are made of the proven tribo-optimised plastic iglidur J. The high-performance material eliminates low friction values in dry runs, it is exceedingly wear-resistant, lubrication and maintenance-free as well as resistant to chemicals.

igus RX tube proves itself in a test with real conditions

The plastic energy tube RX, from igus, successfully resists chips when put through hard operation. This test result concludes after a defined period of 100,000 double strokes and a steady feed of metal chips with different sizes. Comparisons highlight that statements about chip tightness of energy tubes can only be made on the basis of test that simulate real operating conditions.

If moving cables in the workspace of lathes, milling and sawing machines need to be protected, energy chains need to be chip tight inwardly and simultaneously guide the cables with low abrasion. For this purpose, igus has already developed its first foldable plastic energy tube R68. The latest energy tube RX now offers comprehensive protection against chips of any size.

A test is not equal to any other test
In order to be able to make statements about the tightness of energy tubes, the tubes need to be extensively tested. Here the IP classifications serve as an indicator. For over 10 years now igus continues to check energy tubes in the company-owned test laboratory in Cologne. There are several advantages of the igus test series: One being that the test cycles take place among real environmental conditions. To make statements about the real tightness of an energy tube, its subsequent use needs to be simulated precisely.

Simulation close to reality: 100,000 double strokes among impacts of chips
For this reason, igus has developed a standardized test to move energy tubes over 100,000 double strokes. At the same time, a defined load of chips of different sizes is periodically poured on the energy tube again and again. The principle is comparable to a washing machine drum. At the end of the cycles it is analysed how many grams of chips can get into interior space. The result was that only 0.23 grams of chips were in RX tube after 100,000 double strokes with a feed of 1,000 grams of metal chips. This is equal to 0.023 percent.

Picture PM2913-02: Simulation test close to reality: the RX tube successfully protects moving cables against chips. (Source: igus GmbH)

The rounded outside profile lets chips fall off
Comparative tests with other manufacturers’ energy chains show a much higher volume of chips in the inside of the tube. The reason for the better result of the RX tube is its rounded profile. On its smooth and convex outer contour the chips simply fall out of on contact with the surface. Apart from that, igus verifies that the chips are deposited in the stop system of the energy tube. This could lead to a change of the bending radius resulting in the tube not moveing safe and crashing against projecting edges at the worst. The RX tube offers best protection due to especially smooth contours and tight production tolerances – no chips got between the stoppers during the test. The results from igus show that tests among real conditions need to be performed to get reliable statements about the chip tightness of an energy tube in operation.

Igus launches One Cable Technology Solution

igus India, specialist for energy chains and cables, now has a single-cable solution for servo motors in it’s program: The hybrid servo cable has an integrated hyperface bus element. With it, the company takes up the currently emerging trend of the single-cable technology for servo motors. The hybrid servo cable is based on the chainflex cable series CF270.UL.D.

In the field of drive technology, servo motor and the converter are generally connected with two cables - one servo cable for the energy supply of the motor and an encoder cable to give data about rotation speed and position of the motor back to the control. Currently, drive manufacturers increasingly offer servo motors with single-cable technology. The principle: Energy supply as well as data feedback are coupled in one cable. In this case complex measuring system cables, which are usually used for the encoder function, are replaced by bus technology.

Hybrid-servo cable from igus: single-cable solution with hyperface bus
igus already anticipated the present trend of single-cable solutions for servo motors on the current year’s Hannover Fair and has introduced a single cable solution with integrated hyperface bus element. The main advantage over a “standard” servo cable is it’s space-saving function, a very important aspect for the use in energy chains. Apart from that, the number of plugs and therefore the costs for additional material and installation is reduced.

Protecting shield for maximum EMC
A good and durable shield is especially important for servo cables to prevent possible disturbances of neighbouring cables within the energy chain.
This is even more important in the case of the newly developed hybrid cable, because the sensitive bus signals are directly integrated into the servo cable. For this reason the element shield as well as the entire shield of the hybrid cable from igus is made of a particularly bending-resistant shield made of tinned copper wires with an optical covering of 80%. The high-quality shields ensure the electromagnetic compatibility of the cable.

High-end – durable and developed for the energy chain
Above that the hybrid servo cable has been developed especially for the use in energy chains and disposes of a maximum bending radius of 10 x cable diameter.

The basis of the hybrid cable is the technically high-level chainflex family CF270.UL.D that has been in the market for more than 5 years. It’s good durability is permanent under excessive load conditions, this is the result of the specific igus design: The core pairs, stranded with optimal pitch length, satisfy the high mechanic demands of constantly moving use. They offer a constant high protective effect to ensure proper electric performance. A low-adhesion PUR outer jacked covers the cable. It is customised to the specific demands in energy chains and provides a long lifetime of the cable due to the proven igus materials.

Moreover this hybrid cable corresponds with relevant standards such as UL, CSA and NFPA79.2012 and is oil resistant. Due to its Desina conforming orange outer jacket, its flame-retardance and freedom of halogen, this new cable fulfils the demands especially for the use in machining centres and machine tools. Such features are also appreciated in conveyor technology as well as in cryogenic temperature applications.

Make your own polymer rotary tables in the size of your choice

With the help of the flexible iglidur J universal sliding element from the igus, the user can now tailor the desired size of his rotary table bearing. Polymer rotary table bearings (PRT) from the igus exist in seven sizes and three types. There is also an igus PRT with quadratic flange for direct assembly on a flat surface.

iglidur PRT is a rotary table bearing with the proven advantages of igus polymer plain bearings. The sliding elements made of the tribo-optimized plastic iglidur J run totally maintenance and lubrication-free. The counterfaces of the rotary table bearing are mostly made of aluminium and are hard-anodized. As a result they also have very good tribological and sliding features.

Install and forget
Rotary table bearings are often used for slow pivoting and rotating motions that are operated manually: The ready-to-install rotary table bearings have a self-locking effect, for example in case of pivoting control panels of machines. At clocked movements in assembly lines, they work perfectly for a long time, no matter how often the movement is performed.

iglidur rotary table bearings – large, larger, infinite…
The smallest iglidur rotary table bearings have an inside diameter of 20 mm and the largest 300 mm. There are five other sizes are in between. igus engineers have now developed a flexible plastic universal sliding element with which rotary table bearings in most different sizes can be achieved: By putting iglidur J sliding elements together, rotary tables from an inside diameter of 500 mm up to almost infinite can be manufactured as desired. A rotary table bearing with a diameter of one meter that is built up on that basis can be loaded with up to ten tonnes according to its model. With it igus successfully managed the entry into large to very large rotary table bearings. Large rotary tables are particularly required in the solar technology, for assembly units or fixture construction. For such applications, igus not only delivers the sliding elements, but also supports the design engineer with information about precise dimensions and tolerances. With it the assembled bearing unit can be used immediately.

Rotary table bearing with square flange
All igus rotary table systems are wear-resistant, corrosion-free and easy to install – especially the new polymer rotary table bearing with square flange. It can be mounted on the flat surface with four screws only and without inlet holes. This avoids an additional distance ring. This rotary table has been designed for handling systems, the furniture industry and for display and advertising technology.

With many variants and flexiblity
Along with the seven sizes, igus rotary table bearings are available in three versions: a robust standard version also with mounted gear wheel, a cost-effective variant made of one element as well as light-weight low-cost-version with an inside diameter of 80 mm. For accessories igus offers in addition to manual clamp and drive journal distance rings for other sizes – optionally made of aluminium or plastic.

Picture PM2313-01:
If you put together single sliding elements made of iglidur J, rotary table systems from an inside diameter of 500 mm up to almost to any size can be manufactured as requested. With a diameter of one meter, a load of up to 10 tonness is possible according to the model. (Source: igus GmbH)

About igus India:

igus adds HD and motor variant to the e-spool series

igus further develops its offer of winding energy chain systems. The new igus “e-spool” heavy duty (HD) and motor flange versions are even more powerful. The HD variant is equipped with an extra strong spring to retract the energy chain at vertical applications. Moreover the motor version with motor flange is available for high filling loads and movements in any direction. The e-spool connects two energy supply systems into one system – a standard energy chain being wound and an igus twisterband for rotational movements.

No matter whether it’s, flat on or underneath the ground – the winding and space-saving energy chain system e-spool from igus is variably applicable in any directions. More importantly, e-spool is the only solution that guides all media types such as data, compressed air and liquids flexibly and with minimum space in one system. E-spool connects two different energy supply systems in one system – a standard energy chain guided via a reel that always supports the proper length and tension of the energy supply system and, an igus twisterband that performs rotational movements. This design allows movements in any direction, hence is suitable for a number of fields of application: process cranes, mobile crane trucks, sorting plants or stage applications.

e-spool module construction kit: three variants, three lengths and two versions
igus offers different e-spool solutions, depending on the pull out direction and load: The standard e-spool (SP) with a spring mechanism for spooling up the chain is appropriated for most applications and for any directions. Some vertical applications require a higher retraction force. Now the heavy duty variant (SPHD) comes into play: Here the retraction spring is stronger to be able to spool up the energy chain up to 14 m without problems. In addition, a motor variant with flange (SPM) is offered for especially high loads in any direction. igus delivers e-spool for the use with motor including motor coupling. The user installs motor and control.

All three e-spool versions are available in different extension lengths with 4, 7 or 14 m and one or two twisterbands in the standard program. The maximum spooling speed is about 1 m/s.

Modular alternative to the classic cable drum
The twisterband connects the reel with the shaft support, which serves as an interface to the permanently installed cables. This avoids the costly conventional slip ring that is usually used for cable drums. With it different cables can be connected, replaced or added any time within the smallest space in  a complete system. The twisterband gives the largest possible cable diameter of 17 mm and the minimal bending radius of 75 mm. For more capacity, twisterbands can be used on both sides of the drum.

igus measuring system cable is business class

igus has optimized its chainflex measuring system cables CF113.D and CF11.D: The new igus measuring systems cables have been further developed for smaller radii with a bending radius of at least 7.5 x cable diameter and dispose of accordingly high-quality superstructures. They are available from stock as yard goods or ready-made in 20 manufacturer standards.

Measuring system cables communicate the movement of a motor back to the control. They are used in any manufacturing machines for example in wood processing or in machine tools, but also in storage and retrieval units, in semi-conductor assembly or crane applications. For this reason five different qualities of measuring system cables are available in the chainflex program. Because, for as many applications possibilities there are as many motor manufacturers that want delivery. At the customers choice, a broad spectrum of 40 core cross section combinations.

Variety for almost any measuring systems
The chainflex cable program from igus provides a grand range of measuring systems cables for the use in energy supply systems. The cables are equipped with a PVC & PUR outer jacket for medium and high stresses. As a high-end solution for maximum stress the customer can go back to a TPE jacket. In addition there is a cable series for torsion applications. According to the drive technology systems from 20 manufacturers all cables are offered as ready-made yard goods or with plug connectors. 760 cable versions result in combination with the different measuring systems cables.

New in the program are the optimized measuring system cables of the series CF113.D and CF11.D for small radii with a bending radius of at least 7.5 x cable diameter. Both products offer optimized stranding and shield structures for especially small spaces and a high-quality substructure with gusset-filling pressure extruded inner jacket.

High-end measuring system cables in PUR and TPE quality
CF11.D as well as CF113.D is developed for highest stress. Of the same high value is its cable structure: an especially durable conductor, inner and outer shield made of extremely bending-resistant copper shielding braid and an inner jacket made of TPE. With respect of the abrasion resistance the outer jacket has been especially optimized for requirements in energy chains.

The chainflex cable (FlexCable Application) CF113.D is shielded with an outer jacket of a low-adhesion and highly abrasion-resistant mixture on the basis of PUR. A highly flexible TPE outer jacket protects the chainflex cable CF11.D. Both measuring system cables are coolant-resistant, hydrolysis and microbe-resistant, halogen-free and PVC-free and also oil resistant – the CF11.D even against bio oil. This allows inside and outside applications – even for travels of 100 meters (CF113.D) up to 400 meters (CF11.D). Above that the CF113.D is flame-retardant and notch-resistant. It is in accordance with UL, CSA and NFPA approvals, which makes it interesting for requirements in machine tool building. chainflex CF113.D and CF11.D are standardized in accordance with the Desina-standard.

Picture PM2213:

The brain of the energy chain: PPDS from igus monitors trouble-free energy chain function

A system’s standstill costs time, money and nerves. To reduce downtimes and to avoid damages, igus GmbH offers with PPDS advanced and PPDS pro Condition-Monitoring-Systems to monitor shifting forces at energy chains.

Machine stoppages can’t always be fully avoided – even with most extensive precautionary measures. When energy supply systems are open, parts or tools can fall into the chain and block the motion. The possible consequence: Damages that require partial or complete replacement of the chain and the guided cables. In these cases to keep damages to a minimum , igus offers the appropriated “Push Pull Force Detection System” (PPDS) for such applications. igus could tremendously reduce the space requirement due to the use of state-of-the-art electronic components: previous and partly clumsy switchboxes for evaluation units of shrink about 2/3 in size and price. With it the “brain of the energy chain” now becomes cost-effective standard equipment.
Reliable prevention of damages
It has been ten years since igus introduced the first PPDS. Its function: The PPDS monitors occurring shifting forces at energy chains. If something blocks the motion, shifting forces increase. From a firmly defined threshold value, PPDS sends a signal to the system control to stop all motors. This avoids severe damages at the energy chains and the cables. The field of application of the PPDS family starts at travels of 10 meters and reaches up to plants with travels of 500 meters and more.

Compact monitoring of the state for all sizes
To monitor ways between 10 and 100 meters, the especially cheap PPDS basic is part of the igus program since 2012. It registers shifting forces via two small sensors that are located between the connecting element of the energy chain and the towing arm. The evaluation unit PPDS.EU.01 displays the forces, records occurring exceedance of the limit values and in case of emergency – sends the signal to the machine control. A complete system inclusively sensors, evaluation unit and connection cable is available from stock.

For travels of 100 meters and more, the floating moving ends are used to compensate lateral tolerances during the floating end drive. For this purpose igus provides the PPDS advanced with a special sensor variant. This allows reliable monitoring of shifting forces also in this case. In the heavy-duty area with its very long travels and high additional loads, igus offers the PPDS pro. It is particularly designed for the application, controls shifting forces on the basis of position dependent limit values. Previously an evaluation for the systems advanced and pro, clumsy switchboxes were used, whereas today thanks to smart electronics, a compact unit of the protection class IP65 – smaller than a DIN A4 sheet – overtakes this task.

Igus introduces Quick-install hose packages for the robot industry

The "Triflex R" robot accessory package from the German energy chain expert, igus GmbH, Cologne, includes well over 200 components. From large welding to small palletizing robots, every application is covered.

Corrugated hoses can kink and tear. That is why igus developed the 3D energy chain "Triflex R" for robot producers and users. It is available in three designs. The first is a closed version to protect the cables on rough applications, such as welding spatters, chips, and dirt. The second is the "Easy" version in which the cables are simply pressed into the chain by hand, finally an easy to handle and install "Light" version is available.

Guiding the cables around difficult geometries.
The multi-dimensional, movable robot chain can have its length adjusted at any time thanks to its modular construction. It can be either shortened or lengthened at any place. It achieves its high tensile strength using the “ball and socket” joint. The individual elements are not connected to each other using extra steel cables similar, but with a simple connection like a trailer tow bar. This ball and socket design ensures mobility in every direction. It is possible to turn about +/- 10° per link in the chain. This makes it much easier to guide the cables around difficult geometries.

No tangles, no stress with cables
In addition, there is a defined freedom of movement in all three dimensions. The bending radius is the same in every direction, which also reduces stress on the chain itself, as well as the cables, and hoses. In addition, the use of spring-rod modules generates a directed pre-tension. This makes it possible to create a system where the chain is suspended and doesn’t get caught up in the working area. igus also offers a "Triflex RS" set specially for robot applications with limited installation space. This version guides the energy chain parallel to the robot arm to save space. It can be mounted directly on all attachment points on the robot. Finally, protectors, quick attachment systems, and attachment modules for nearly any robot complete the wide product range.

Extremely fast exchanges of cables: "Triflex R" energy chain, shown here in the "Easy" version. The cables are simply pressed into the chain by hand and are always accessible from the outside. This reduces maintenance and overhaul work and reduces the downtime of the robot.

Also new: additional connections ("B version") for up to four times as much radius stability. The ball and socket connection was altered for this design.

Cables are easily accessible
igus presented two central innovations for its "Easy" version at the "Automatica" Exhibition. The "Easy" version allows the cables and hoses – which are simply pressed into the energy chain – to be easily visible and accessible from the outside. This makes it possible to very quickly replace individual cables or the entire hose/cable package if service is needed. This solution shortens the time needed for maintenance and overhauls and thus reduces the downtime for the robot.

New: 50 percent higher tensile strength
Firstly, the "Easy Triflex R" is now available in size 125 with a pinned connection (the so-called "C version"). This permits simple installation and removal of the links in the chain. The connection of the links of the chain is made using a spherical plain bearing – spherical cap and locking pin – which ensures form fitting power transmission. The linear tensile force absorption has been increased to 4,000 N. The energychain can now compensate for even greater torsion forces.

New: four times as stable
Secondly, the "Easy Triflex R" is now available with a further improved attachment system (the so-called "B version"). This provides up to four times as much radius stability so that even higher forces can be absorbed for complicated and restricted movements of the robot arm while still protecting the cables. The ball and socket connection was altered in the design for extremely rough applications with high accelerations and very high speeds. The quadruple increase in the bending radius stability has been demonstrated in numerous company tests at the igus-Technicum Center in Cologne.
