On the igus website, the customer can not only choose the right cable for their moving application with the chainflex product finder, but also immediately configure their individual energy chain system using the online e-chain expert, QuickChain.100. This ensures reliable data on the durability of the e-chain and the cables, thus making the selection of the most cost-effective system even easier.

With the motion plastics specialist igus, the customer has now the opportunity to find the best energy chain system for a travel of up to 100 metres more easily and quickly: Visit the igus website, open the e-chain expert QuickChain.100 (QC.100), choose unharnessed or harnessed cables, enter the application and environmental parameters and finally select and configure the appropriate energy chain. Within the QuickChain.100 expert, the user can choose from more than 1,200 highly flexible chainflex cables tested by igus as well as over 4,000 'readycable' drive cables. On the basis of the specified cables and application data, space constraints, dynamics and energy chain environment, the customer can easily choose from a range of 90,000 e-chains parts, which are tested in the in-house laboratory spread over 2,750 square metres. The integrated service life calculation for the energy chain and cables allows the customer to quickly and easily choose the most cost-effective system that safely meets their requirements. For customers trained by igus sales staff, a "power mode" is also available, which allows interior separations deviating from the standard recommendations for example the stacking of up to three cables one above the other. This allows the customer to choose a smaller e-chain width. Once the configuration has been completed, this is checked again and approved by igus. The free e-chain expert QC.100 can be used both online and offline, alone and by a team. For example, several team members from different departments can design energy chain systems online at any time and at any place, process the CAD data and order them directly.

igus produces injection-moulded special parts from printed mould

igus produces injection-moulded special parts from printed mould

Injection-moulded, printed or machined from bar stock – the motion plastics specialist igus offers customers a wide range of possibilities to obtain their lubrication-free parts such as gears or plain bearings quickly and cost-effectively. igus also offers the possibility to solve difficult technical challenges quickly by means of a 3D-printed mould – and now with all tried and tested iglidur materials. Since the production of injection moulds made of steel is comparatively expensive, takes longer and is only feasible in the production of large quantities, special Tribo solutions can be produced with a printed mould within 2 to 5 days with up to 80 percent cost savings in production and further, even small quantities can be produced. "A new process for the production of printed injection moulding tools now allows igus to make even more precise and long-lasting products," says Gerhard Baus, Authorised Officer of the Plain Bearings Division.

Produces small batches cost-effectively and quickly.
The material of the desired special solution always also determines the material and the manufacturing process of the printed mould. From an availability of 50 tribologically optimised and online computable iglidur materials, users are free to choose the right material for their special part; whether high-temperature or high-load application, igus has the right high-performance material. For example, iglidur G is an all-rounder, whereas iglidur X is recommended for long-term application temperatures of up to 250°C. Depending on the material chosen for injection moulding, the mould is produced by means of an appropriate 3D printing process and then immediately used in the injection moulding machine. Thus, simple special parts are ready for shipment within a few days. The special material structure of the printed injection mould ensures that it can withstand the high temperatures during injection moulding, which means that one mould can produce prototypes and small batches up to 500 pieces cost-effectively and quickly. The production of special Tribo parts by means of printed injection moulding tools is particularly advantageous if the desired material cannot be processed in the 3D printer or when the parts are used for a test which is intended to simulate as close as possible conditions for a later mass production. igus has already produced over 2,000 moving parts for its customers through printed injection moulding tools.

Industrial robots from igus can be openly configurated from ₹ 4.5 Lakhs

Configure easily and automate cost-effectively – at the 2017 Hannover Messe the motion plastics specialist igus presented new robolink components for individual robotics solutions. In addition to complete robotic arms in optimised design for even more freedom of movement, higher stability and up to eight kilograms of load, igus displays the 'robolink designer', with which users can configure their robotic arms easily and quickly.

With the robolink product range, igus has set itself the goal of offering cost-effective components made of lubrication-free and maintenance-free plastics, so that users can assemble their systems individually from joints using a wide variety of gears, motors and connecting elements – either with individual components in self-assembly or with a fully pre-assembled articulated arm. At the 2017 Hannover Messe, igus presents a new5-axis robot kit with optimised design, which is also available as a finished, preassembled arm. The ready-to-connect robotic arm, which offers even greater freedom of movement and greater stability, was shown in production operation by igus at its booth.

igus offers these complete solutions even more cost-effectively with either four or five degrees of freedom in two different sizes. "With these solutions, we provide users with industry-grade products that we have tested in our own lab and even used for pick-and-place tasks in 24-hour operation in our own production facility," explains Martin Raak, product manager of robolink at igus. "The larger option of the new robotic arm for up to eight kilograms of load capacity is available ready for connection starting from 1 off for ₹ 3 Lakhs and with a low-cost control system for a total of around ₹ 4.5 Lakhs." One option here is, for example, the control system of the manufacturer Commonplace Robotics (CPR). It is equipped with an easy-to-use software that can be used to control robolink D robotic arms with four or five degrees of freedom, only requiring an external computer for the installation. Even the smaller option of the robolink D articulated arm with a maximum load capacity of four kilograms can easily execute quick handling tasks for loads up to 500 grams.

Configure robots easily online
With the new 'robolink designer', customers can select their specific components step by step on an intuitive CAD interface, thus enabling them to configure their robotic arm quickly and easily from the first axis up to the tool. "The length of the arm is quite variable, so that the robot can be adapted to the respective work area," explains Martin Raak. "The software can also be used on a tablet, allowing, among other things, a visual simulation of movements on the rotating joints." Following the configuration, a parts list and a direct request to igus are issued.

New plastic angle adapters from igus allows quick and easy angling of cable connector after fitting

New plastic angle adapters from igus allows quick and easy angling of cable connector after fitting

Slide it on, bend the cable, fix and ready to use! In just a few steps, the new igus ibow, from the motion plastics specialist igus, can be used to attach cables with an angled plug connection and save space. With this simple injection moulded part, igus allows flexible connection of cables to a machine, whereby the angle of connection is freely selectable. "With the use of the igus ibow, cables can be connected just as easily to machines as without the adapter," explains Christian Stremlau, head of the readychain/readycable division at igus. "Customers do not need specially trained personnel and also save twice because they only need to get one type of plug connector, the straight connectors and their harnessing are also significantly cheaper than angled connectors." Users can therefore obtain the identical connector types as harnessed readycables from igus and also choose the best angle for connecting to the machine later. This saves process and storage costs and above all eliminates errors.

Faster and, above all, safer use
By using the cost-effective igus ibow, the connector does not have to be removed from the cable, which saves time and is also safer. As soon as the cable complete with connector has been pushed through the adapter and angled, it must be fixed with a cable tiewrap. In this way, it can also be removed again easily later if required. Depending on the customer's requirements, igus supplies the ibow as an individual part in various installation sizes or already harnessed together with the appropriate cables. Users can also specify the desired colour or add additional individual labels.

igus medium voltage cable for energy supply systems on crane installations available from stock

igus medium voltage cable for energy supply systems on crane installations available from stock

The motion plastic specialist igus has developed the new chainflex medium voltage cable CFCRANE.PUR for very long travels, for example in crane facilities. Motor cables of this series are, among others, highly flexible and oil resistant. As a retrofit solution or for special projects, igus offers the new series of cables from stock.

In the crane and material handling sector, installations are increasingly getting bigger and working at an ever-higher dynamics around the clock. This means, in addition to the ever-higher demand for energy, there are rising requirements on the components used, which have to withstand ever-increasing loads all 365 days of the year. For projects of this kind, the motion plastics specialist igus has developed the CFCRANE.PUR series of chainflex cables to compliment the low-abrasion and low-noise roller energy chains. These are particularly suitable for very long travels up to 1,000 metres. The new medium voltage cable CFCRANE.PUR for voltages of 6/10 kV can be used in indoor and outdoor applications due to the special conductor structure as well as the combination of the materials used. The new CFCRANE.PUR has a diameter that is up to 20 percent smaller than conventional motor cables.

Special cable with 36 months guarantee available from stock
These cables of the new series have been developed for bend radii of 10xd moving in e-chains The durability has been proven in the igus test laboratory and is guaranteed by igus, as for all 1,244 chainflex cables available from stock, for a life of 36 months. "If customers urgently need cables for replacing existing systems, they don't have to wait a long time," explains Rainer Rössel, head of the chainflex cables division at igus. "Because, the new cable can be ordered directly from our stock and delivered in the shortest possible time." This is also interesting for special projects, which igus implements through its project engineering team. If, for example, new installations are equipped with energy supply systems in the bulk handling or offshore sector, the igus experts will assist right from the planning stage. Since igus produces energy chains and cables and delivers them from one source, customers can always rely on secure and ready-to-install solutions.

Igus smart plastics Monitor the operating state of all e-chains with just one module

Igus smart plastics Monitor the operating state of all e-chains with just one module

At the Hannover Messe 2017, igusshowed new and improved products. These included, for example, isense EC.RC, a new system for monitoring e-chains, the optimisedCF.Q module for the intelligent chainflex cables that customers are already using today and the intelligent iglidur PRT slewing ring bearings.

Making production processes easier and more reliable – In order to enable its customers to do this, igus the motion plastics specialist, develops intelligent solutions that warn of potential failure in good time before unplanned and very costly downtimes occur. One year ago, igus presented its first products at Hannover Messe – Due to the considerable customer demand, visitors coming to the stand a year later could now experience the new generation of 'smart plastics'.

Continuous monitoring for safe operation
Including the new isense EC.RC (e-chain Run Control). It monitors the operating status of the e-chains, especially in guide troughs used on long travel applications. Sensors measure and check the position of the energy chain. In this way, the machine is prevented from continuing to operate when mechanical faults occur; meaning that total loss of the chain or an electrical shutdown (for example, due to cable damage) are a thing of the past. In this way the isense EC.RC, like all isense products from igus, guards against any unscheduled machine shutdowns.

Further intelligent motion plastics for diverse applications
Another new product from the smart plastics family is the EC.M module, which is mounted on the moving end of the chain and automatically records its status, i.e. acceleration, speed, temperature and completed cycles. The distance travelled and the remaining service life of the system can be derived from this. igus has also improved theCF.Q module, with which the data of the intelligent chainflex cables are gathered. Due to continuous measurement of the electrical properties, ambient temperature and the number of cycles, a possible failure of the cable is predicted in good time. "Continuous testing in our test laboratory and in customer applications help us to make analysis of the measured values increasingly more precise", explains Michael Blaß, Head of Sales and Marketing e-chainsystems at igus. "Real applications in which we are already using our intelligent products and our chainflex cables include, for example, robot gantries for transportation in automobile factories, where even short unscheduled standstill times result in very large production losses."

One module for many energy chains and cables
Whereas igus presented different isense measuring systems for its linear guides, energy chains and cables last year, the icom communication module, which gathers, and transfers all the values of these systems, was improved at the same time and now communicates mostly without cables. It is even easier to integrate into existing production, one of the reasons being that only a single icom module is needed for several systems. In addition, customers can now connect other manufacturers' data-generating units which monitor status to the icom module. Igus showed live on the stand, how the operating states of all moving e-chains are measured by only a single icom module. In addition, igusshowcased the intelligent iglidur PRT slewing ring bearing, a new member of the smart plastics family. Thanks to an integrated wear sensor, which is mounted in a cut-out niche under the slide elements, the so-called PRT.W sensor ('W' for wear) also measures the abrasion so that replacement of the bearing in good time without an unscheduled machine shutdown can be ensured, thus contributing towards increased security in production.

Igus Launches First 3D print material for food technology

Igus Launches First 3D print material for food technology

The 3D print material iglidur I150 developed by motion plastics specialist igus has now been approved for food contact according to EU regulation 10/2011. By the certification of this Tribo-Filament that has a versatile use, customers can now print their custom-made parts which are approved for direct contact with food or cosmetics in moving applications. The material is lubrication-free and maintenance-free and can be used even on 3D printers that do not have a heated printing plate.

With the certified iglidur® I150 Tribo-Filament, lubrication-free special parts for movement in the food industry can be produced quickly and cost-effectively. iglidur® I150 can be processed on any 3D printer where the nozzle temperature can be set to 250°C. Since the high-performance plastic has a very low shrinkage, it can also be processed on 3D printers that do not have a heated printing plate. In this case, the igus adhesive film is recommended as the base for the print bed in order to ensure good adhesion. "iglidur I150 is extremely versatile and therefore also interesting for many other industries", explains Tom Krause, product manager for Tribo-Filaments at igus. "It is very tough and the easiest Tribo-Filament to work with. The material has an impressively high wear resistance at surface speeds of up to 0.2 m/s." In the igus test laboratory, iglidur I150 showed a much higher abrasion resistance compared to classic 3D printing materials for a large number of different test parameters.

Lubrication-free wear parts easily printed
In addition to iglidur I150, the polymer specialist igus has five other lubrication-free and maintenance-free iglidur Tribo-Filaments for a wide range of applications – for example, where permanent load or chemical resistance is required. Common to all is that they are characterised by high abrasion resistance and are up to 50 times more wear-resistant than standard materials for the 3D print. The 3D print with the tribo-filaments from igus is a good option especially in the production of complex moving parts subject to wear in jigs and fixtures, in small batches and special machine construction. For customers who do not have their own 3D printer, igus offers a 3D printing service for wear parts, made from both the iglidur Tribo-Filament and its own laser sintered material iglidur I3. Customers can upload their data, choose the material, calculate prices and order their individual wear parts directly online.

Lightweight and cost-effective profiles from igus are here to save your money

Lightweight and cost-effective profiles from igus are here to save your money

The motion plastics specialist igus has expanded its drylin W modular system and now also offers linear guides with rails made of glass-fibre reinforced plastic. From vehicle construction to laboratory technology, this metal-free alternative helps users save costs and weight in their overall construction.

Glass-fibre reinforced plastic, abbreviated GRP, is convincing not only by its very low weight compared to metallic alternatives. The fibre-plastic composite also has a very high media resistance, is non-magnetic and also very cost-effective. In order to expand its extensive drylin W modular system for linear technology, the motion plastics specialist igus has developed a GRP rail on which a plastic carriage is used. "The drylin W profile made of glass fibre is 20 percent lighter than aluminium and even 70 percent lighter than steel," says Stefan Niermann, head of the drylin linear and drive technology division at igus. "At the same time, it is also 50 percent cheaper than carbon, which means that our GRP linear guide system is an alternative for use in vehicle and aircraft construction as well as for medical devices or measuring systems.

Versatile material for a wide range of applications
The pairing of GRP and plastic is also suitable for other industries where highly dynamic movements play a role. For example, more and more users are using the weight advantages of GRP components in robotics. Due to the good media resistance, however, the linear guide can also be used in an environment with aggressive cleaning agents. Like all igus products, it manages completely without external lubrication and is insensitive to dust and dirt. For more stability, igus offers a high profile GRP rail option. This also makes it possible to mount it by means of clamping claws. Complicated mechanical finishing is therefore superfluous and an easy assembly is possible.

igus e-chain system safely guides control devices: Quickly assembled, space-saving

igus e-chain system safely guides control devices: Quickly assembled, space-saving

More and more companies in crane technology rely on modern cable guidance with energy chains. With the new guidefast control e-chainsystem , the motion-plastics specialist igus has now developed an energy supply system that can also power a manual control on the indoor crane. Quick and easy to assemble, the guidefast control needs only a small installation space and can be adapted to the most varied conditions, thanks to the largest selection of cables for motion.

While e-chainsystems are increasingly becoming the standard for energy supply on port cranes, they are also being increasingly used in indoor cranes. The advantages compared to pure trailing cables are obvious: the e-chain protects the cables inside them; they are not compressed and are thus safely guided when in motion. This is also the case for the manual control of the indoor crane, where the new guidefast control energy chain system safely transmits signals via control cable. A trough reliably guides the energy chain and cables as well as the moving end arm, even with a short-term high tensile load. As with the guidefast guide trough for the cable guidance of the trolley (lifting gear), the guidefast control can also be installed quickly and easily: in the first step of the assembly, the guide trough is fastened to the side of the crane girder to save space. A welding of consoles is not necessary. It is then hooked and bolted into the support, which saves additional installation time. In operation, the moving end arm can be easily moved and positioned by the control device along the entire crane girder, regardless of the position of the lifting gear thanks to the lubrication-free and maintenance-free xiros polymer ball bearings.

The right cable for every movement
The complete igus guidefast control system is independent of the crane manufacturer and therefore can be used with any crane construction or operating device both indoors and outdoors When selecting the cables, the user can choose from 1,244 chainflex catalogue cables that have been specifically designed for movement in energy chains. Thanks to the new high-end cables with outer jackets made of halogen-free TPE, a reliable operation of the indoor cranes is also ensured under tough conditions, very long travels or extremely low temperatures down to -35°C, for example in deep-freeze storage, even with the smallest bend radii. igus guarantees a life of 36 months on all cables. This is only possible through continuous tests under real conditions in the igus test laboratory. The results make it possible to reliably predict the service life and the specific temperatures and bend radii in which the cable can be safely used.

igus launches new Xiros guide roller which is light, durable and food-safe

igus launches new Xiros guide roller which is light, durable and food-safe

For guide rollers and transport rollers, igus has developed a system solution consisting of tube and polymer ball bearings, which is now also available from stock in a light and FDA-compliant design. The rollers for use in the labelling, packaging and food industry consist of a blue PVC tube with two flange ball bearings at the ends made of wear-resistant xirodur B180 with stainless steel balls.

Under the brand name xiros, the motion plastics specialist igus has developed maintenance-free and, above all, lubricant-free polymer ball bearings. Especially in the food and packaging industry, this is a decisive advantage as there is no risk of contamination. New in the product range is a ready harnessed system solution consisting of a blue PVC tube as well as two flange ball bearings made of xirodur B180 with stainless steel balls. "All components used in these new guide rollers are FDA-compliant," explains Marcus Semsroth, head of xiros polymer ball bearings at igus. "From now on, we offer this system solution in two installation sizes with outer diameters of 50 and 63 millimetres respectively." These ligh weight rollers are available from stock at igus in lengths of 100 to 1000 millimetres.

Plastic system solution saves drive energy
Compared to stainless steel tubes, the food-grade plastic tube weighs only about one third as much, which in turn has an effect on the required drive energy when the rollers themselves are moved, for example in film storage. Also the dry operating xiros polymer ball bearings achieve less friction than lubricated ball bearings made of metal, since the balls do not have to overcome the resistance of the lubricant. Here, they have the advantage that they start much more easily than ball bearings made of metal.

xiros: Comprehensive range of plastic ball bearings
Since 2008, igus has developed a wide range of lubrication-free polymer ball bearings, which are already in use in a wide range of applications. The service life of the xiros ball bearings can be calculated by entering the respective application parameters. The most widely used designs are radial deep groove ball bearings according to DIN 625, similar to the available ball bearings made of metal. Further types are, for example, axial ball bearings, multiple bearings, slewing ring bearings or axial polymer ball transfer units.

igus introduces smart plastics: Intelligent linear guide increases safety against failure and reduces costs

igus introduces smart plastics: Intelligent linear guide increases safety against failure and reduces costs

With the smart plastics igus has developed intelligent machine components, which monitor themselves during the operation. An early warning system consisting of sensors and digital communication thereby expands the world's largest modular system for lubrication-free and maintenance-free linear guides. The smart drylin guide is easy to retrofit and increases the customer's safety against failure.

Digitised and networked process sequences in drive technology promise a high potential for reducing machine downtimes, particularly when combined with high-performance plastics for the motion. The smart plastics from igus combine both and expand the customer's ability to provide predictive maintenance. Through continuous measurements and the calculations using the parameters of the system as well as the thousands of test data from the igus test laboratory, it is possible to also reliably predict the smooth functioning of the smart plastics in the future while in real operation. Part of this comprehensive range is the intelligent drylin linear guide, which can be very easily retrofitted.

Smart linear guide makes maintenance easy
To make the products "smart", the dry operating drylin bearings are equipped with sensors and a special module, the isense DL.W. This constantly monitors the abrasion of the dirt-resistant and dust-repellent plain bearings and determines the wear limit by which a bearing must be replaced. The status data are passed on via wireless to the user, who is able to intervene at the right time from anywhere. The isense DL.W as a lightweight and robust plastic element is ideally suitable for retrofitting as well as for a variety of moving applications in which linear guides are used, from the packaging machine to the machine tool. Furthermore, the icom module, which collects, processes and relays the data, serves as a central communication unit. The user can take over the monitoring with the terminal device of his choice and can thus always carry out maintenance, repair and replacement at the optimum moment. Because, if maintenance work has been carried out after rigid intervals, the new smart plastics can be used to determine the individual remaining service life of the component and always the best maintenance date. Particularly in the case of the long-lasting components made of Tribo polymers, the full utilisation of the online computable life cycle pays off.

The intelligent drylin guide is part of the overall range of intelligent products, including the intelligent energy chain and intelligent cable. For interested customers, igus has launched a pilot tester programme.

Everything from a single source: Industrially harnessed energy chain systems from igus

Everything from a single source: Industrially harnessed energy chain systems from igus

At igus the name "readychain" stands for pre-assembled tailor-made energy chain systems. With the new readychain Basic, Standard, Standard Plus and Premium, the motion plastics specialist now has four options in its product range, which delivers everything to customers from a single source, from the simple combination of an e-chain and cable up to fully harnessed and assembled energy chain systems. This is not only convenient but also saves operating costs.

igus offers reliable, tested energy chains and cables for moving applications as well ready harnessed complete systems. Especially for long travel distances and highly filled multi-axis systems, they not only save time in harnessing and assembly but also offer predictable costs to customers. All moving components were developed, tested and coordinated in igus' own test laboratory. With readychain, customers receive a complete reliable pre-assembled system from a single source, directly from the manufacturer and with a guarantee. At the same time, the number of suppliers and orders can be reduced by up to 75 percent, while storage and process costs are avoided.

One order, one invoice, one delivery
igus project managers accompany the readychain systems through all phases of the project. While doing so the interfaces, delivery status, assembly process and effort of the customer are just as important as the product itself. In the igus factory, the readychains are manufactured industrially on an area of 3,000 square metres with state-of-the-art production technology and specialised employees – from simple to complex systems with individually specified cables, hoses, plug connectors, internal separators, mounting brackets and attachments. "We are industrialising manual work," explains Christian Stremlau, head of the readychain and readycable business unit at igus. "Because throughput, quality and price have become more important." Depending on the degree of harnessing the customer can choose between un-harnessed chainflexcables (readychain Basic) or pre-assembled readycable cables (readychain standard) for use in e-chains. This is also available as a ready-to-install multi-axis system with sheet metal, which reduces the plug-in points and optimises the connection interfaces (readychain Standard Plus).

The user has access to the comprehensive readycable range with over 4,000 different drive cables in seven quality classes. "The pre-harnessed cables, including connectors, are custom-made in the desired length with centimetre precision, as is now normal for the industry," Stremlau adds. "At igus, therefore, there is no minimum quantity surcharge." For further cost savings and at the same time high convenience for the customer, igus offers to undertake the delivery and assembly of the fully harnessed energy chain system directly on the machine (readychain Premium). A precisely fitting transport frame known as the "readychain rack" ensures a secure and fast mounting of the module on site, so that it can be put into operation immediately in a machine tool via plug & play. For product and service, the customer receives only a single order number per product group. igus manufactures the readychains in twelve factories across the globe and delivers them virtually worldwide, thanks to the sophisticated logistics, within one to ten days on the guaranteed deadline.

igus Introduces Servo Cables with the World's Smallest Bend Radius

igus Introduces Servo Cables with the World's Smallest Bend Radius

At the 2016 SPS IPC Drives, igus presented its new CF29 servo cable series – one of several new high-end cable families for continuous motion in e-chains with an outer jacket made of halogen-free TPE. This product range extension offers completely new possibilities for energy supply to drives, for users with very tough requirements such as ambient temperatures or small installation space.

A core structure optimised for motion combined with a gusset-filling extruded TPE inner jacket that provides even more stability as well as a highly flexible TPE outer jacket are the features of the new CF29 chainflex servo cable series. The high-end series is suitable for the smallest bending factors for servo cables down to 6.8xd and is therefore unique on the market. The new series offers a guaranteed solution in a temperature range of -35°C so can be even used for moving applications in deep-freeze warehouses. This is made possible by the igus halogen-free TPE outer jacket material, which offers an almost unlimited resistance to oil. This has been used for other chainflex cable series for years. In order to offer its customers an even better selection, igus is now expanding its high-end range with this new servo cable and an additional series for data and bus cables.

Even more choices – guaranteed to last
All cables were successfully tested in a climatic test chamber with real-world mechanical loads and temperatures, within the 2,750-square-metre-large test laboratory at igus. This allows the cable manufacturer to guarantee a service life of 36 months for all cables. And this applies even for cables for the highest dynamics and the most complicated movements. The chainflex service life calculator (www.igus.com/chainflex_servicelifecalculator) helps you to make the ideal selection, and gives you the expected service life of each cable in double strokes after entering the respective application parameters. This allows customers to choose the cable that works reliably in their applications – without having to spend too much.

Igus Presents Custom Made Lubrication-Free Linear axes from the 3D printer

Linear components made of Tribo-SLS material allow special shapes to be produced in just 48 hours

The motion plastics specialist igus takes a completely new approach to drive technology: the SLTI3 lead screw unit offers customers the highest degree of variability in the design of their individual linear axis. Made possible by 3D printed carriage and shaft end supports. This means that lubricant-free and maintenance-free lead screw units can be implemented cost-effectively and very quickly according to customer requirements.

Lubrication-free and maintenance-free linear axes from igus are already the core components of many moving applications, both in the automotive and in the packaging machine. Among them is the low-profile drylin SLT series, which has a drive system with ball-bearing, laterally arranged lead screws with trapezoidal or high helix thread and is suitable for both motor and manual operation. The drylin SLTI3 lead screw unit now supplements this type series with a very flexible system. For this purpose the number of components has been significantly reduced so that the lead screw unit can be assembled in seconds. Customer-specific stroke lengths are also possible, as is the use of trapezoidal or high helix threads according to requirements. Entirely new degrees of freedom in design are promised by the first complete linear carriage from the 3D printer as well as printed shaft end supports, which are manufactured in the laser sintering process.

Self lubricated and low wear: iglidur I3
The 3D print is ideally suited to realise individual wishes down to the smallest detail. The customer not only receives his custom-made lead screw unit in a very short time, but can also implement own ideas for profiles, stroke lengths or fastening options. The iglidur I3 material is used in the drylin SLTI3 lead screw unit, the SLS material from igus for selective laser sintering, with which the most complex shapes can be precisely manufactured. The process also endows the components with high strength, which require no more support structures with subsequent reworking. Extensive tests conducted on the large 2,750-square-metre floor area of the igus test laboratory with counterparts made from different materials have shown that iglidur I3 is at least three times more abrasion resistant compared to conventional SLS materials, both in the pivoting, rotating and linear motion. The igus 3D printing service enables an efficient production of single pieces or small batches.

igus Offers Low cost automation with 5-axis Articulated Arms

igus Offers Low cost automation with 5-axis Articulated Arms

Simple configuration, quick acquisition, immediate connection –  the entry into the world of igus low-cost robotics is that easy. This is made possible by the new 5-axis kinematics from the robolink D series. Offered as an assembly kit consisting of arm, motor and gearbox, or now as a ready-to-connect articulated arm, users are given the opportunity to implement their own automation systems.

Robots are taking over in automation tasks more and more. Last year, sales of industrial robots exceeded the 245,000 pieces, which marks a new record. At the same time, interest is also growing in simple and inexpensive robotics solutions. In the area low-cost automation, with the robolink D igus offers users the ability to easily increase their productivity with a flexible robot kit. At the 2016 Motek, the motion plastics specialist will present a new 5-axis robot kit, which is also available as a preassembled arm, in hall 4, stand 4310.

Self-configured or pre-assembled
Thanks to the modular combination of the robolink articulated arm, motor and gearbox, the customer receives a system that can be assembled and used for a variety of robotic tasks. In addition, it is possible to combine motors and joints in several installation sizes with standard control systems for a complete robot made of plastic and aluminium. As pre-defined 5-axis kinematics with robolink D-joints, beside the igus stepper motors and metal parts as connecting system, igus e-chains and chainflex cables with a 36-month guarantee are also used. The motors can be controlled with commercially available control modules and the centre distances can be modified by changing the connecting parts. The robolink DC is available as a 5-axis model in two options: a small version with a load capacity of up to 0.5 kg and a larger version with up to 2.5 kg. The system can also be ordered as a subassembly, for example as a rotary unit, swivel unit or 2-axis swivel arm. The prefabricated arm is light and easily configured, and are as interesting for robot manufacturers and machine builders just as for system integrators and automation in all industries, from automotive production up to medical technology. Thanks to the robolink configurator, robolink D-joints are very easy to assemble and the robot arm can be easily configured. The price of the 5-axis articulated arm is € 3349 for the small or € 3998 for the larger option from a quantity of one without control system and is much lower cost with higher quantities.

igus offers maintenance-free and extremely light ball bearings specifically designed for confined spaces

igus offers maintenance-free and extremely light ball bearings specifically designed for confined spaces

The motion plastics specialist igus has developed thin ring bearings in accordance with DIN 625 for small installation spaces and where very low weight is crucial. The xiros plastic ball bearings are, for example, suitable for a wide range of control systems in vehicles due to the freedom from lubrication and maintenance as well as very low friction.

Temperature, ventilation or suspension dynamics - a lot can be adjusted in the car by means of various rotary controls. Here, the new xiros type 67 and 68 thin ring bearings are particularly suitable since an extremely low weight is crucial and usually only a small space is available. The motion plastics specialist igus offers this in two different materials (xirodur B180 and xirodur S180) in inner diameters between four and 30 millimetres. Special dimensions or customer-specific integrated solutions are also possible on request. For both xirodur materials, users can choose between balls made of stainless steel 1.4401 or glass, whereby the use of glass balls guarantees a completely non-magnetic version of the ball bearings. In addition, the use of plastic balls is possible on request for a further weight reduction.

Maintenance-free and light-weight
The xiros thin ring bearings from igus are suitable for application temperatures between -40 degrees Celsius and +80 degrees Celsius. They do not require lubrication and are corrosion free. In the largest test laboratory for plastics in motion at igus with a floor area of 2750 square metres, various rotating and pivoting tests have proved that the bearings are suitable for several 100 million cycles within permissible loads. "As in all xiros ball bearings, the frictional torque of our thin ring bearings is also very low," says Marcus Semsroth, head of the xiros ball bearings division at igus. "Thus, no breakaways can be felt when they are moved, which, for example, ensures very good haptics when used on rotary controls." For the correct selection, configuration and ordering, igus has developed easy-to-use online tools.
